To get the home theater experience you can go all out with a dedicated room without windows and plenty of room for multiple recliners. You can also put a little bit of home theater anywhere in the home with today’s technology.
For a toned-down home-theater experience version that you can have in any room without special wiring, all you need is a big screen TV and a 2.1 or 5.1 surround system. Many people opt for the 2.1 system because they are designed to mimic a 5.1 surround system, and they don’t need any special wiring at all. They also come in a sound bar format that doesn’t distract from the look of your room.
But with today’s wireless technology you can include the 2 rear speakers, without any speaker wiring to the front, for a true 5.1 experience. And it’s no longer very expensive to get a good wireless system.
Samsung and may others make them. Visio has a couple really nice setups for under $500 that, from my own experience, work great!
For whole-house or multi-room music and intercom, you can’t beat an expert installer who can work with your builder. Technology has changed the way these are installed and has vastly increased your options. You need someone who knows the ins and outs and what will work best for you.
